Atypical measles is a form of natural measles infection affecting those who
previously received killed measles virus vaccine. The atypical measles syndrome
is characterized by high fever, pulmonary infiltrates, and either no rash or an
unusual rash that causes swelling and pain in the hands and feet. The disease
may be confused with meningococcemia or rickettsial diseases.
