I. Biography



Meryl Streep, born Mary Louise Streep on June 22, 1949 in Summit, New Jersey as the oldest of three children in the family. She is a double Academy Award winning American actress who has performed in movies, television and the theater. She is the most nominated performer in Academy Award history with 13 nominations.

Streep made her professional stage debut in 1971s The Playboy of Seville and her screen debut in 1977s made-for-television movie The Deadliest Season. Her movie debut was made in 1977s Julia.

II. Personal Life

Meryl Streep got married in September 1978 with Donald J. Gummer( sculptor ). In 1979 , the couple had their first child, a boy they named Henry, then a girl , Mary Willa Gummer, by 1983 before adding two more members to the family, Grace Jane in 1986 and Louisa Jacobson on June 12,1991.

Meryl Streep is the most nominated performer in Academy Award history with 13 nominations. She is known as one of the most respected and talented actress of her generation. Therefore , along her astounding career, Streep has achieved a lot of awards and nominations.

I am going to remind a few of her very first nominations and awards such as: Theater World Award (winner) for 27 Wagon Full Of Cotton; Obie Award (winner) for Alice In Concert; Tony Award (nomination) ) for 27 Wagon Full Of Cotton in 1976; Emmy Award ( winner) for Holocaust (Tv) in 1978; and also a few of her latest : Coolige Award (2006); British Academy Award (nomination) in 2005; Emmy Award (winner) for Angels In America in 2004.

iii.        Meryl Streep, The Brightest Star

Her vast collaboration in different movies , TV shows, stage performances, and other projects has put Meryl in contact with a lot of other personalities. Her activity and way of being has given birth to a series of opinions and views upon not only Meryl as an actress but as a person.

ACADEMY OF AMERICAN POETRY Meryl has twiced performed her favorite poetry in front of the 'Academy of American Poets''s audience. The Academy of American Poets is a nonprofit organization founded in 1934.

CENTER FOR HEALTH AND THE GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT

The Center for Health and the Global Environment was founded in 1996 at Harvard Medical School to expand environmental education at medical schools and to further investigate and promote awareness of the human health consequences of global environmental change. Actresses Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver hosted a Health dinner to benefit the organization in 2003.

ELTON JOHN AIDS FOUNDATION Meryl Streep supports Elton John's AIDS foundation, which provides national leadership and resources that will result in educational programs on the prevention of HIV / AIDS and the improvement of care for individuals living with HIV/AIDS.

EQUALITY NOW Taking Action for the Human Rights of Women, Equality Now is an international human rights organization dedicated to action for the civil, political, economic and social rights of girls and women and are strongly supported by Meryl Streep. With Jane Fonda and Susan Sarandon, among others, Meryl also joined the Appeal to George W. Bush

JOHN F KENNEDY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

Meryl is an Honorary Committee Member of The Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays, which supports the development and presentation of the most promising new works by playwrights and regional nonprofit theaters nationwide.

Meryl Streep co-hosted the annual Nobel Peace Prize Concert with Liam Neeson in Oslo, Norway in 2001.

Streep is also a supporter of the US Democratic Party (one of two major contemporary political parties in the United States, the other being the Republican Party).
